Free Halloween Monster Keychain Crochet Pattern | Frank the Monster Keychain
Last pattern release of my best selling duck hill beanie crochet pattern had me day dreaming about getting that pattern into a knitting pattern. Which I did in just a few short days, (shout out to my mom for keeping my bigs). I am in love with that pattern and I can’t wit to get it released to you. Hopefully by early next week. But I was also toying around with the idea of making a tiny marshmallow sized keychain that is a quick but cute market prep make since I have a few of those coming up. I also wanted something that was small enough to make a bunch so that I could take them down to my vendor space at Kindred Collections. (452 Locust street, Columbia Pa 17512 if you’re local!)
With that I got to work making this tiny Frank Monster. I think it’s super cute and I use two different greens so I can make two of them and do all the steps up until adding the eyes and neck bolts. Batch making for the main parts of a pattern make things go slightly quicker, although the constant “Moms” I get is probably the real reason it takes me so long to finish projects… insert cackling laugh.
I would also like to take the time to note here, I followed the same exact pattern for both franks in the picture below, however one did turn out a bit bigger than the other. The smaller one is in big twist baby bear, and the near green one that is slightly bigger is made with big twist posh.
Alright friend, let’s get to making you a super cute small Halloween themed monster keychain.
MATERIALS:
4 mm crochet hook
Black yarn
Green yarn
Silver yarn
Stitch marker
Scissors
Keychain hardware
Yarn needle
Safety eyes (6 or 7 mm)
ABBREIVIATIONS:
CH – chain
SC – single crochet
INC – increase
BLO – back loop only
DEC – decrease
ST(S) – stitch(es)
PATTERN NOTES:
You can make this in any yarn, but it turns out pretty small, so using any yarn smaller than big twist baby bear is really hard to get safety eyes into.
This pattern is worked in continuous rounds.
I add my keychain hardware after round 3, i use the ball chain and plastic hooks and just pop them through.
PATTERN
With your 4mm hook and black yarn.
R1 – Ch 2, 6 sc in the first chain.
R2 – sc inc (12 sts)
R3 – sc, sc inc (18 sts)
R4 – work in BLO, sc each st around (18 sts)
R5 – sc each st around (18 sts)
cut your black yarn, and join green yarn.
R6 – R11 – sc in each st around. (18 sts)
Here is here i add the eyes, and the stitches on franks face.
Place eyes between rounds 8 and 9, approx. 3-4 stitches apart.
To do the stitches, i make one long diagonal line starting from a stitch away from franks right eye, but starting in round 7, going down toward the last worked round, and span over 3-4 rounds. Make three small cross lines working across the long line.
R12 – in green, sc 5, join silver and bobble st in next st, in green sc 8, in silver bobble st in next st, in green sc 3.
R13 – sc each st around (18 sts)
R14 – sc, sc dec (12 sts)
R15 – sc dec. close your circle and weave in ends.
